Basil Highs and Lows

We’re half way through our summer CSA season and so far (knock on wood) we’ve been able to deliver produce that we’re really proud of. We’re trying not to act surprised. While most crops have grown well, basil has sent us on an emotional roller coaster throughout the season. We seeded the basil in trays in the greenhouse way back in April. I’m so excited to introduce you all to Songbird Haven Farm! We’re launching our farm with a 10-12 person farm share (i.e., community supported agriculture program or CSA) and on-farm events like u-pick days, workshops, and other fun excuses to join us out in Woodinville. This week felt like fall. We got some rain, the smoke cleared, and there was a crispness to our sunny days. We also planted many of our winter transplants in the p-patch at just (we hope!) the right time – about 9 weeks before the Persephone Days.
